Ten public and industrial bodies working in the open source field have gathered at the beginning of 2008 around Mancoosi project (Managing the Complexity of the Open Source Infrastructure), with EUR 4,4 million budget (75 per cent coming from the European Union).
Besides Nice Sophia-Antipolis University, France has been represented by Paris-Diderot University (with Roberto di Cosmo as the project coordinator), Mandriva and Ilog.

The IFREMER (French national institute of marine research) and the Plan Bleu (Regional activity centre in favour of environment and development of the Mediterranean) have signed a 4-year framework convention on the main topics relating to marine sciences and sustainable development in the Mediterranean: marine environment including chemical contaminants, impact of climate change, living and non-living resources, marine renewable energies, geological natural hazards, marine ecosystems, in particular the economic value added of resulting goods and services.
The Plan Bleu has also participated in Paris Summit for the Mediterranean, showing its survey on sustainable development in the Mediterranean area.
