Spanish researchers from the Faculty of Medicine of Oviedo University and French researchers from the Inserm and from the AP-HM (Public hospitals in Marseilles) have recently tested on mice a new treatment against progeria (genetic disorder of premature ageing).
Thanks to the combination of two existing pharmacological molecules (statins and aminobisphosphonates), the symptoms (growth delay, weight loss, hair loss, bone fragility) have decreased and the life of the mice has been extended from 101 to 179 days on the average. If the researchers obtain the authorization, about 15 children in Europe could test this treatment.
