The first stage of the Mediterranean Union project promoted by the French President Nicolas Sarkozy  will begin in June 2008 with a summit of heads of Mediterranean Union states which may take place in Marseilles. The European Union should count among the guests (José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission; Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy; a representative from the presiding country...).
